Ethos started as an experiment to help me reconvene with a part of my creative spirit that had seemed long lost. As an attempt to kick-start some inspiration, I bought a new pedal on the recommendation of a good friend: the Meris Polymoon. This is a wonderful device on many accounts, but what really woke me up was hooking it up to my Korg Polysix synthesizer. I had already spent nearly 15 years bonding with this instrument, feeling that I had come to know its every quirk and nuance. But something about the Polysix + Polymoon combination ignited a new passion in me. The sounds that emerged were gorgeous and bewitching and I couldn’t stop creating / listening.

What unfolded from there became a six-song love letter to these instruments. Almost every sound contained therein originated from the Polysix + Polymoon combo (the only exception being my breath, filtered and distorted, on All The Love). By setting these strict limitations, I felt I could thoroughly interrogate these devices to learn their language and record what they wanted to say through me. Or perhaps it was I through them who spoke, although I still don’t fully understand what was said. I guess it’s not up to me to figure out, anymore. I sincerely hope that the listener, as Bob Moog once said, may “derive nourishment from the music you hear.”
